Native to Madagascar, the Pachypodium lamerei is a species of flowering plant in the family Apocynaceae. Better known as the Madagascar Palm (although many are given this name), this plant is not a cactus, despite hosting spines.
This drought-tolerant exotic plant's name "Pachypodium" translates to "thick foot," which refers to the swollen trunks of mature plants. Growing leaves from the top of the caudex, the Lamerei is fast growing, reaching around 2 meters in cultivation.
Commonly confused with the slightly rarer Pachypodium Geayi, the Lamerei has slightly thicker leaves.
Enjoy the seasonal changes as this deciduous tree transforms over winter, when they loose their foliage.
Cactus Vision favors this tree in modern and palm springs-inspired garden beds with plenty of room for vertical growth. Watch out for Mealy bug and scale.
