The Dragon Toes Agave is an evergreen plant, also known as a Century Plant, Dwarf Agave, or Maguey. This clustering dwarf agave is botanically known as the Agave Pygmaea or Agave seemanniana subs. Pygmaea.
Growing to around 30cm in diameter, this breathtaking agave species is loved for its grey-blue skin and red marginal spines.
Growing in the wild at an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level, this agave species can adjust to frost in dry areas, making them great options for cactus gardens in Canberra. It's like a dragon that can survive the cold!
Cactus Vision favours this minimal maintenance agave for balcony and patio gardens, planting them with hanging Rhipsalis succulents.
Like most agaves, the Dragon Toes Agave only flowers once in a lifetime with up to 25 years of growth. After flowering, this agave reproduces seeds and offsets; then dies. Flowering periods provide a great opportunity to propagate new offsets, virtually ensuring your agave collection stays strong for a lifetime.
Although uncommon, watch out for agave weevil, slugs, and snails. They're the dragon's arch-enemies!
